My son is a gamer. And not a casual, XBox-playing gamer. He’s a PC gamer. We seriously discussed getting liquid cooling for his CPU because he runs that baby hot. Overclocked.
I kind of hate the bumper stickers I see on cars around town. “Proud Parent of an Honor Roll Student.” “Proud Parent of a National Merit Scholar.” “Proud Parent of a Labradoodle.”
So much competition, even from the ass-end of your god-damn Prius. Back off. We’re all doing our best. To parent. To live. To pause for a moment and have some peace and enjoyment. I don’t need the stress.
I don’t truly want a bumper sticker that says “Proud Parent of a Gamer” because a) my son would smash off the bumper and b) I know that comparing my insides to someone else’s outsides is a fool’s errand. Maybe the Dad of that Honor Roll Student drinks a bit too much. Maybe that Labradoodle is an asshat and shits behind the credenza.
I don’t want to be part of that. It cascades. There would be a parent walking by my car who would have to rely on a sticker that said “Proud Parent of a kid who isn’t currently on smack, but give it a few days, it’s only Tuesday.”
Let’s all just be proud of our kids, even if they are flawed in some dramatic way. So long as we tried and we loved them and we didn’t leave needles lying around, we and they are worth celebrating.
P.S. – If you want to buy that actual bumper sticker from the image, I stole it from here.
